What is a obituary?

A obituary is a lasting way to celebrate the legacy of a loved one's life. Families and friends can share stories, photos, memories and more on this online memorial site, where others can view and share these precious memories.


Who can view a obituary?

All visitors can view obituaries, tributes and media posted on the site.


How do I create a obituary? 

Join the site by clicking on the register tab and filling in all required details, including accepting our Ts&Cs, then click on ‘create new account’. A confirmation email will be sent to you: once your account has been confirmed, you will be able to create an obituary via the Obituaries tab on the grey toolbar at the top of the page.


Does it cost anything to create a obituary?

Creating and updating a obituary is free.


How many photos and media files can I upload to a obituary?

You can upload as many photos and videos as you like.


Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Each video or audio file uploaded must be no larger than 2MB.


Can I include a favourite song? understands the impact music can have when remembering a loved one as and as such we will soon be introducing the ability to add sound, but for now please feel free to upload a YouTube video of the music you wish to include.


Where does acquire information for obituaries?

Obituaries, memorials and tributes are added by members of In addition to these, we have a team of people who create obituaries and add tributes and media for noteworthy South Africans who have passed away.


How do I find more information?

The information we display on the obituary is all that is provided by the public, or is available via public resources. Obituaries created by our team will contain as much basic information as is available - person’s name, date of birth (if known), date of death and last known residence (if known) and so on. No further information is available other than what you see on the obituary record.


How do I report an error?

We are happy to correct any errors you come across on obituaries added by the team. Please send a detailed e-mail to and be sure to include a link to the individual’s obituary along with the corrections you are requesting. We will not make adjustments to privately created obituaries, memorials and tributes.


I can’t locate my loved one in your database.

If you cannot locate the person you are looking for by searching by name, date range of death and location, it may be that he or she is not in our records. We can create a record for a loved one on your behalf: you will need to supply us with a legal proof of death. Proof of death could be a scanned copy of the death certificate or a copy of a printed obituary notice. Please email with this information along with their full name as you would like it to appear on the obituary, date of birth, date of death and last city of residence.


I would prefer to have an obituary removed. How do I do so?

We respect the privacy of visitors to and if you’d prefer to have the record of a loved one removed, we are happy to oblige. Please e-mail with the individual’s name as well as a link to the obituary. Please specify your relationship to the deceased and we will delete it from our database. Please note: If a record has been upgraded to a paid member, we cannot honour a request to remove it. If an obituary has been created by a member of the public, and not by the team, we are also unable to delete it from the site. You will have to request this directly from the person who created it.


I posted a condolence on a tribute and would like to make some edits/delete it. How do I do that?

If you are a registered member, log into the site and look for an ‘edit’ link underneath the media you created. Note: In order to see the edit link, you must have been logged in at the time you left the condolence. Please contact us if you have any difficulties.

To delete any media you have added, please mail with the name of the person whose tribute you want to remove and a link to the media you want deleted.


I forgot my password. How do I retrieve it?

If you have forgotten your password, you can request a new one by clicking on the "Forgot your password?" link on the login page. An email containing a one-time log in will be sent to the email address you used to register on the site. Once you have logged in via this mail, you can change it to whatever you’d like in the "My Dashboard" page by clicking on "Account Details."


What is My Dashboard?

Your Dashboard is a quick way to access and manage various aspects of your account.


How do I change my email address or password?

When you are logged in, you can update your personal information any time under your Dashboard tab.


Who has access to my Obituary?

As the profile owner, you will always maintain control of the media you have added, even if someone else contributes to the obituary.


How do I edit my account?

You can log into your account and make changes to your account at any time.


How do I deactivate my account?

If you would like to deactivate your account, you can do so by clicking on ‘Deactivate my account’ under your My Dashboard tab. NOTE: You must be logged in to access your My Dashboard. If you change your mind and want to reactivate your account, send us an e-mail at Deactivating your account DOES NOT CANCEL any obituaries or media you have added to the site.
